Angling Times (UK)

Finally, we’re all back where we belong...fishing!

-

AFTER an excruciating period of what-ifs and maybes, anglers have finally received the official go-ahead to return to the banks – and the news was greeted with euphoria.

Immediately after the announcement, rod licence sales soared, and early the next morning tackle shop phones began ringing off the hook as eager fishermen clamoured to order bait for their first session back.

The news was greeted with a similar level of excitement by the Angling Times team, especially me. You see, by pure chance (though some of my work colleagues are saying otherwise), the resumption of angling coincides with my first bit of time-off this year. When I booked it several months ago, I could never have imagined what would unfold. But the cards have fallen in my favour, and I couldn’t be more excited. Images of big fat tench rolling lazily over my baited spot at dawn have filled my head, and although the reality will probably be far less dream-like, I really don’t care. I just want to be there, taking it all in.

The other thing I’m desperately looking forward to is seeing the pages of Angling Times once again filled with the beaming smiles of happy readers doing what they love most – catching fish and fulfilling dreams of their own.

One of the main lessons that lockdown has taught us is to enjoy the moment, and not take anything for granted. Our fishing time is precious, so make the most of it and, please, share your experiences with us.

In this new dawn for angling, anything seems possible.
