HULL AND DISTRICT AA, EAST YORKSHIRE

Offering excellent value for money, the Hull and District Anglers Associatio­n is a fantastic club to join, especially for juniors and beginners. It has loads of stillwater­s including the Brough complex, where you can start off on Kingfisher or Avocet Pool floatfishi­ng for a wide range of species, before working your way up to Grebe Pond, with its larger carp. You can also have a cast on the Trent for a hard-fighting barbel, or spend a day exploring the River Rye, where you can catch chub, dace and grayling.

WARRINGTON ANGLERS ASSOCIATIO­N, CHESHIRE

The long-standing Warrington Anglers Associatio­n is a club to be part of, because of the vast range of fishing it offers. It will appeal to any beginner who wants to try their hand at a range of fishing. Its many stillwater­s to try include the unique Woodshaw Reservoir, known for its excellent tench and crucian fishing – a rare find in the area. You can also fish the in-form Mersey for quality roach and bream, or trot a stick float down the intimate River Dane.

YARM ANGLING LIMITED, NORTH YORKSHIRE

Offering in-form stretches of the River Tees, and two stillwater­s, Yarm Angling Limited is a club well worth a look. Big bream can be caught in great numbers from the Tees, and the club’s Halnaby Lake and Turlwick Ponds both hold good numbers of tench, bream, crucians and carp. The club places great store on juniors, with numerous events tailored specifical­ly towards these young anglers. Yarm even has its own headquarte­rs – perfect for a pint after a day’s fishing!
