LET’S SMASH IT!

-

THAT buzz is back. Nights are on, big carp are getting caught all over and it’s time to get in on the action if you haven’t already.

I can’t wait for my first trip and despite places likely being packed out, does it really matter? There’s such a variety of carp waters out there that you can usually find somewhere to settle in, even if that means adjusting your targets or expectations.

Seeing so many people getting out there and learning this intricate part of the sport is great news to me. I know some may disagree, but if that means I can’t get in the best swim on the lake for 90 per cent of the year, then so be it.

Short sessions have been the order of the day for me and that’ll continue now nights are back, because you can often beat the crowds by fishing 7pm to 7am midweek. Sure, it’s a hassle and the slightest mistake can cost you the session, but eventually it becomes a real routine that allows you to make the most of the time you have.

Over the next month there’ll undoubtedly be some huge fish caught from lakes all over the country, and we’re arguably in one of the best periods of the year for big carp.

This issue of Carpfeed is about recapping the often simple advice that’ll help you outwit these fish. To do so, first you must understand their behaviour, so Adam Penning kicks us off with some truly bizarre carp habits he’s noticed through the years.

If night fishing is new to you or you’re unsure about getting the bivvy out again, Julian Cundiff has some wise words on fishing after dark. Meanwhile, the advice from both Tom Maker and Rob Hughes will help keep your alarms screaming all spring.

If you aren’t quite ready to hit the banks yet but are doing a bit of spring cleaning of the kit beforehand, check out my review of the new Daiwa luggage on pages 44-45. This kit really is the business!

No matter what your carping plans for the month, I hope you smash it. Tight lines for the month ahead

from all the Carpfeed team.
