Angling Times staff have their say
Peterborough’s finest
I’d pick Robin Harris – a brilliant float angler on rivers, never used a pole – refused to, rated very highly by Ivan Marks and his peers. Apparently a great man to talk to as well.

Jan, my fishing muse
I’d pick someone I was actually once lucky enough to meet and spend time with – one of my childhood fishing heroes, the late Jan Porter. A well-rounded knowledge and great storyteller. Other than him it would have to be my grandad, the person who got me into this great sport of ours to begin with.

A mine of information
For me it would be Chris Ball, ‘the carp historian’. He’s still one of the best floater anglers in the country, but I’d be happy to forget the fishing and just leaf through his ‘Special Album’, which is a book containing photographic evidence of just about every significant moment in British carping history.

Big Des is my man
Des Taylor would be my first choice. We’d have a laugh, catch a few fish and then retire to the pub afterwards for the rest of the evening. What’s not to like?

Jolly good company
I’d go with Nick Helleur. Even though I’m not much of a carp angler, the guy seems like a proper character. He seems to have some great stories and a unique take on life. He’s also an awesome angler, who I reckon could help me finally catch a carp from Pit 1 at Sharnbrook.

Angling’s Dynamic Duo!
It would have to be Matt Hayes and Mick Brown. I grew up watching their shows and I really don’t think you could have one without the other – they come as a pair! It would be awesome to witness their bankside banter first-hand.
