IF YOU’RE searching for a truly memorable fishing holiday, Lonsdale Park is the place for you. Set within the stunning Cumbrian countryside, Lonsdale is a site of special scientific interest, making it a haven for wildlife. It also offers fantastic fishing that guests can enjoy free of charge.
There are five lakes to choose from, offering a diverse range of angling opportunities to keep you interested throughout your stay.
You’ll find carp to over 30lb in Lonsdale Lake and Reed Mere, as well as some huge roach and perch.
The smaller Deer Lake is a mature, tree-lined pool. It’s full of character and filled with features for the fish to enjoy. Big tench and carp, as well as quality roach, chub and perch, make it a haven for the float angler.
On Arches Lake, you’ll find bountiful features that hardfighting carp, averaging high doubles, love to hide in. Birch Pool is the smallest of Lonsdale’s waters, hidden away amid the trees. It holds abundant stocks of small fish.
Around 90 per cent of pegs are wheelchair accessible, and the fishery has pneumatic trolleys to help carry your fishing equipment about, as well as an on-site shop that sells all the tackle and bait you need, with knowledgeable staff who will put you on the fish.
There’s a wide range of accommodation, with holiday cottages, luxury lodges and caravans – something to suit every taste and budget.
If you fancy a break from the fishing, there’s loads to do in the area. The historic city of Carlisle is just six miles away, and can be easily reached from the local railway station. Once there, there are historic attractions such as Carlise Castle to explore.
There are also some great walks right by the park. Some go along the stunning River Eden, while others take you round an RSPB reserve. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, the Northern Lake District is 40 minutes away.
