USE A FLOATER
Maggots are good, but I always begin with the head of a worm, as you can catch several fish on the same bait and they’re normally a good stamp too. When things slacken off, I change to a smaller hook and switch to single caster or a single fluoro pink maggot. I’m also a big fan of using floating maggots to give a slow fall of the bait, as I think that a lot of roach and dace on this river actually sit off the bottom.
