CARPERS RAISE OVER £120,000 TO REMEMBER ‘TING TONG’
THE CARP world is still in mourning following the tragic passing of one of the sport’s great characters, Iain Macmillan, best known as ‘Ting Tong’, who died last month following a long-term battle with cancer.
Known to many from various media appearances, Iain was a pioneer of day-ticket carp angling and was always willing to pass on his knowledge to others. He represented many of the major brands throughout his career, including Shimano, Dynamite Baits, DNA Baits and others.
While Iain’s fishing legacy will live on in his work, he’s also responsible for one of the biggest fundraising efforts the sport has ever seen.
His deepest wish was that a Just Giving page was set up to support the Douglas Macmillan Hospice, which provides vital end of life care.
Anglers have responded to Iain’s call in unbelievable fashion, with the page total currently standing at a staggering £121,902, made up of more than 1,782 different donations.
The community has raised money
through raffles, giveaways and auctions, the highlights being a huge £5,500 donation from Ryan Need, which won him a session at Rich Wilby’s renowned Spitfire Pool, and an incredible £10,770 raised by RH Fisheries.
Perhaps the most unique prize was put up by Carp Team England boss Rob Hughes, who auctioned off the chance to be a part of one of his underwater films and appear on BT Sport. The winner, who bid £2,000, will also get the chance to snorkel with Rob.
