5G is on the march. From linking home appliances and smartphones to powering connectivity in underground mines, the use cases for the fifth generation of cellular communications are almost never-ending.

Networks are being rolled out in countries all over the world, including some of the poorer nations for which this represents a major opportunity to fast-track into modern economies. In Cambodia, for example, leading telco Cellcard is planning to launch its own 5G network across the country in Q2 of 2019.

Speaking to Jonathan Dyble a year on from his previous interview with the magazine, CEO Ian Watson fills us in on the Company’s progress and gives his thoughts on all things 5G.

“For us, 5G is not about having faster speeds,” he says. “That’s a given. Instead we want to change people’s perceptions about what a network can deliver. There have been numerous challenges, but the transformative effects of 5G for both our business and customers will be equally rewarding.”

Another transformative story in the tech sector comes from Siemens

Philippines, whose President and CEO Jorel Nuyda explains how it is re-energising a number of national industries through digital innovation.

One sector that is being particularly revolutionised by technology is energy. This month’s entire feature section at the front of the magazine focuses on innovation, with Shell, Toshiba and Veolia Water Technologies all pioneering new solutions to help make more with less.

Simplicity is also a hallmark of Design Worldwide Partnership (dwp). Champions of simple, elegant and timeless design, dwp has completed a number of iconic projects across the continent and is looking to expand its global reach by striking up partnerships in London and New York. Scott Whittaker, the Company’s Founder and Group Creative Director, tells us more.

Seapac Philippines is another firm positively contributing to the region’s construction sector, while our other exclusive insights this edition come from DuluxGroup PNG, UMG Myanmar and Thailand’s M&H Manufacturing, the latter being a stalwart of the country’s healthcare scene ever since it set up nearly 60 years ago.

We also have a packed travel section this issue with no fewer than four business travel guides to digest, from Melaka and Fiji to the Solomon Islands and Danang.
