South Asian Art

This show inaugurates two new galleries at the museum, providing a focused look at its collection of South Asian art. One gallery includes an array of 19th-century works, from mica paintings to clay sculptures, while the other explores art after Partition; pictured is a painting from 1978 by Biren De.
Lynette Yiadom-Boakye:

Yiadom-Boakye’s enigmatic paintings depict subjects from her imagination, rendered with short brushstrokes in a jewelhued palette. Featuring 80 works from her student days onwards, this first major survey explores the development of the London-born artist’s style.

The German artist, who died earlier this year, is best known for his collaborations with Marina Abramović from 1976– 88. Yet, as this survey makes clear, the works he produced before and after were also pioneering in their fusion of photography and performance.

Lasting Impression

To celebrate its 150th anniversary, the MFA is displaying all of its 35 paintings by Monet in an exhibition that examines the connections between the French painter and collectors in Boston since the 19th century. Pictured is Monet’s Seacoast at Trouville from 1881.
