M.S. Rau, a global leader in fine art and antiques, debuts at TEFAF Maastricht this March
Since 1912, M.S. Rau has been a historic landmark in New Orleans and is renowned for its world-class collection of fine art, antiques and jewellery. Bill Rau, the third-generation owner and CEO of M.S. Rau, is well acquainted with the European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF) and has loaned many of his gallery’s works to dealers displaying there. This year marks a significant milestone, as M.S. Rau has agreed to be an exhibitor at TEFAF. Rau’s exhibit will feature an extraordinary body of Impressionist art, constituting one of the most significant collections he has ever exhibited anywhere.
Show-stopping masterpiece
When asked about his exhibition, Rau stated: ‘Among the many exciting works we are bringing by icons including Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso and Gauguin, the one I am most excited to share is Edgar Degas’ Ukrainian Dancers. It is one |of Degas’ last great works and is one of his crowning achievements. This exquisite pastel has been published in over 10 periodicals and exhibited around the world, including in the National Gallery in London, the Fondation Beyeler in Switzerland and the J. Paul Getty Museum in California. The Getty devoted an entire room to this treasure. It is astonishing to see in person and completely fresh to the market.’
Global reputation and growth
M.S. Rau is well known and its vast 4,000-square-metre gallery stretches across four buildings and three storeys, making it the largest gallery of its type in North America. It has an exceptional blend of approachability and exclusivity in the world of fine art and antiques, welcoming all kinds of enthusiasts for timeless objects and fine art. Visitors are thrilled by the seemingly endless corridors filled with museum-quality items. In a humorously modern turn of events that would astonish its founders, M.S. Rau’s sales consultants have also gained global recognition through their educational videos on social media.
The Rau difference
People often ask how Rau’s family business not only survives but thrives in the contemporary art market.
