Spring shoot at Dunoon Clay Target Club
THERE was a good turnout for the recent Dunoon and District Clay Target Club Spring Open Shoot.
The field of 14 seniors and one junior saw variable weather during the event on May 21 with both sun and showers.
The J C Lamont Trophy has been a regular club fixture since 1993. Third generation family member Neil Lamont, J C Lamont’s grandson, took the junior prize in this year’s competition.
The day’s shooting was divided into two, the J C Lamont Trophy, which is a handicap competition confined to club members, and an open competition for visitors.
In the trophy competition first place went to Joe Docherty with 147 points out of a maximum of 150. Richard Deane was second with 139 points, closely followed by George Lynn on 137 points. Fourth Place went to David Mundell.
In the open competition, first place went to Ross Speirs, Caindow, with an excellent score of 148 points. In second place was Willie McDermott, Bute, on 129. Jock Crawford, Bute, shot 125 points for third place and Donnie McPhail, Glendaruel, was fourth on 122. Neil Lamont won his second prize of the day by winning the pool trap competition with a creditable seven hits out of eight.
This being the first open shoot following the winter programme, the opportunity was taken to present the Winter League Trophy to Richard Deane.
In a closely fought competition, Richard beat Ian Coates by two clays.
The club provides an opportunity to try clay target shooting in safe, supervised conditions. For further details visit the club website at dunoonanddistrictctc.com.
