A grand day for annual charity sheepdog trial
BIG turnout of competitors and spectators travelled to sunny Strathlachlan on the banks of Loch Fyne for the annual fundraising sheepdog trial.
In bright but chilly conditions last Sunday, plentiful supplies of home baking and soup went down a treat. Generous donations of auction prizes by local businesses helped raise a four-figure sum for Marie Curie.
One of the organisers, Catherine MacDiarmid, said: ‘We were overwhelmed by everyone’s response, giving all kinds of things, from vouchers, bottles of wine and whisky to large money donations.
‘We want to acknowledge the support of Euan MacLachlan, Winston Churchill Venison, Bute and Cowal Vets, Fyne Ales, The Tree Shop, Loch Fyne Oysters, Cairndow Stagecoach Inn, Black’s of Dunoon, KMR Candles, W Dunlop of Elmscleuch Farm, and many others who contributed.’
Catherine continued: ‘This trial was only able to be held with the generosity of Peter Kennedy and his family for allowing us to use his sheep and the field, also for helping us to set up.’
The total amount raised was £1,029.43 – all of which will be donated to Marie Curie, supporting people living with terminal illness and their families. Trial results Old dogs: Chris Toner with Tic – 90, J Ramsey with Cap – 86 (on out-by work), A MacCuish with Moss – 86.
Young dogs: S Davidson with Kep – 79, L Gast with Fae – 78, N McEacheran with Gail – 75.
