Eco group hosts fundraising coffee morning

-

ARDRISHAIG Church Eco Group will be hosting a coffee morning to raise funds for the Tearfund toilet twinning scheme, which sponsors the building of toilets in developing countries.

Jean Hodgson, of the Ardrishaig Church Eco Group, said: ‘Lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation traps people in poverty. Their health suffers and the prospect of developing economically remains far out of reach.

‘Large numbers of the populations in developing countries do not have access to proper hygiene facilities. They have nowhere clean of safe to use as a toilet – so have to use outside spaces.

‘Consequently, their health suffers, which, in turn, limits their ability to work or study – leaving them constantly at risk, in poverty and unable to support themselves or their families.’

Education in good hygiene is given alongside the newly-built toilets and immediately families can begin to benefit because of better control of diseases.

Through the scheme, it costs just £60 to build a new toilet and wash-room in a rural community family home, in many parts of Africa, South America and the Indian sub-continent. For £240, a school in a similar area could have a toilet block constructed.

In order to support this worthwhile cause, the Ardrishaig Church Eco Group will be holding its coffee morning on Saturday January 21, from 10am-12pm, in the North Hall, Ardrishaig.

Delicious home baking will be on offer and, if that is not enough sweet treats, there will be more to buy and take home from the cake stall. Entry costs £2.50.
