Argyll volunteers wanted to give charity wings
A FORCES charity needs people from Argyll to support its work in the area.
The Royal Air Force Association provides welfare support to all generations of serving and ex-serving RAF personnel and their dependants and is looking to enlist a volunteer caseworker and befrienders in the area.
Association volunteer manager Katharine Montgomery said: ‘The caseworker role is fairly complex one, but it offers great rewards in return.
Duties
‘Duties could involve anything from helping a disabled client submit an application for home alterations to giving information about breaks at the RAF Association’s Wings Breaks Hotels. Full accredited training will be provided.’
Katharine added: ‘We would love people to come forward. As a caseworker, people get a lot of fulfilment from helping others.’
Befrienders
If you have a little spare time, the Royal Air Force Association is also on the lookout for Argyll people to volunteer as befrienders.
Katharine explained: ‘This is a similar role to that of a caseworker, but less complicated. You would be involved in helping people who perhaps are lonely, providing a bit of company and reinforcing links between individuals and local social groups.
Visit
‘It’s often just simply a case of giving a quick visit to make sure they’re okay. Again, full accredited training will be provided.’
With around 400 branches and a worldwide membership of more than 65,000 people, the Royal Air Force Association also needs for fundraisers to support the on-going Wings Appeal.
So if you can shake a collection tin…
‘We couldn’t function without our volunteers,’ concluded Katharine. ‘We have 3,500 active volunteers in the organisation around the world and every one of them makes a real difference to the lives of the people we help.’
