Record-breaking swimmers

IT WAS all about new records and personal bests at the Dolphins’ first time trials of 2017.

Held at MacPool, Lochgilphe­ad, on Thursday January 26, the trials featured 40m freestyle, backcrawl, breastroke and butterfly swims and 100m individual medley swims.

The junior group clocked up 80 per cent personal best swim times, with Cara Banaghan and Tom West achieving five personal bests each.

While the senior group finished with 50 per cent personal best swims, Abi Gregory, Ellen Moir, Hannah Young and Johnnie Neville also made five personal best times.

New club records were set on the day by Ruth Neville in the 10/11 years individual medley; Ian Munro in the 14 years and above butterfly and Megan Danson in the 14 years and above 100m individual medley record and the 40m breaststro­ke record that has be held since 2015.

The current fastest swimmers in the club are: Ian Munro - 29.09 seconds for butterfly; Ruby Bosomworth - 31.24 seconds for backcrawl; Megan Danson - 34.29 seconds for breaststro­ke and 100m individual medley; and the fastest swimmer through the water is Alfie Smith - 25.12 seconds freestyle.

Jacob Potter was awarded the swimmer on the month trophy for achieving three personal best times, taking 15 seconds off his individual medley time, nine seconds off his butterfly swim and six seconds off his breaststro­ke.

Head coach Arlene Green said: ‘All our swimmers swam amazingly, with some great improvemen­ts being made in the individual medley swims.’
