Wet weather thwarts yet another shinty weekend

-

SHINTY once again fell victim to the weather at the weekend.

Matches involving Kilmory, Inveraray, Glenorchy, Strachur and Bute had to be postponed because of unplayable pitches.

This is particularly frustrating because many teams have still not taken to the field this season.

One of the games that did go ahead in Argyll was at Otter Ferry where Col Glen took on Aberdour.

The first half was end to end with Col Glen looking the more likely to go ahead but the visitors finished the half strongly and some great forward linkup play allowed Roddy MacColl to finish a chance to break the deadlock and make it 1-0. David MacDougall added a second for Aberdour on 70 minutes with his first goal for the senior side. Tom Irvine scored for the home side on the stroke of full time, but it was the men from Fife who collected the points with a 2-1 win.

Dunoon Camanachd played Aberdour reserves at Silversands in the only league match to have been played in South Division 2 this season so far.

David Young gave Dunoon the lead just before half time with his first goal for the club. Aberdour responded strongly, putting Dunoon under pressure, and got their reward when Kevin Latimer made it 1-1.

Both teams came away with a point in what was a muddy affair.

Weather permitting, the shinty action resumes this weekend.
