Glendaruel big shots
GLENDARUEL and Colintraive Gun Club held its fifth Glenfiddich Challenge trophy shoot last Saturday, June 3.
Members and visitors travelled from all over the region to attend the event which is fast-becoming a highlight of the shooting calendar.
The club’s ground is situated in a fine spot with competitors never having to shoot into the sun.
This, along with the prizes and catering, may explain the attendance of 43 guns.
The Glenfiddich Trophy went to Derek Street, Glendaruel, with a score of 147 points out of a possible 150 points - a score that reflects Derek’s ranking as one of Scotland’s best down-theline target shooters.
Tied
Club members Alex Gray and John Gilchrist, Campbeltown, tied for second place on 144, while fourth place went to Willie McDermott on 142.
One point behind there was a three-way tie between Duncan McColl, Oban; John Mackin, Ballachulish; and Stuart McNeill, East Kilbride. The Ladies’ Prize went to Tracey Rooney, Bute, while Glendaruel locals Archie McBride and Ronnie MacDonald won the junior and novice prizes.
The Ormidale Trophy for top local gun went to Derek Street.
Sponsorship
The club is grateful to William Grant and Sons, represented by Anna Morrison, for its generous sponsorship of the shoot.
The club thanks everyone who provided practical support including maintaining the traps, refereeing and scoring the compe- titions. Thanks also go to Pat Currie, Johann McBride and Anne McPhail for providing the catering.
