Exhibition displays museum’s 20/20 vision
ARTWORK is being exhibited at Kilmartin Museum for the next month as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations.
The 20/20 exhibition, which is displayed in the museum cafe, marks not only 20 years since the opening of the museum but aims to highlight the museum’s vision for its redevelopment project.
At the opening of the exhibition last Friday evening, museum business manager Cameron Bruce explained: ‘At the start of the year, when we began discussing ways in which to celebrate Kilmartin Museums 20th year, we became a little obsessed with ways use the number 20.
‘But 20 is an important number to us. Not only has the museum survived and flourished for 20 years but 2020 is also the year when we hope to realise our vision of the future with a new, redeveloped museum.’
The commissions raised from the 20/20 exhibition will help to complete the redevelopment project which is three-quarters of the way to reaching the £6.7 million target, according to Cameron.
Featuring pieces from 13 different Mid Argyll artists, the exhibition adds a splash of colour to the interior of the cafe.
Cameron continued:
‘I’d like to thank our exhibiting artists for their contributions and for entering into the 20/20 spirit by making their creations in the dimensions of 20 by 20cm or inches.’
A second exhibition was also opened on Friday night in the museum gallery, which features work by S5 and S6 Oban and Lochgilphead high school art students.
Under the guidance of Sian MacQueen and Nicole Heidtke, at the Templar Arts and Leisure Centre in Tarbert, pupils created an exhibition for the museum using plaster and silicone moulds as well as 3D print software to create pieces reflecting an invented natural history.
The 20/20 exhibition runs until Friday August 18 in the Kilmartin Museum cafe and the museum gallery. Admittance is free of charge.
