All action sports at the joint campus
AS THE sun shone on Lochgilphead Joint Campus last Friday evening, youngsters were getting involved in all sorts of sporting activities.
Skateboarding, archery, football and rugby were just some of the sports under way at ‘Sports Not On The Green’, run by the Mid Argyll Youth Development Services (MAYDS).
Aside from the more ubiquitous sports, the water walker provided some aquatic entertainment as people took to the water in a giant waterproof, inflatable sphere.
Dom Kinnard, a silver screen stuntman, added some adrenaline to proceedings as he demonstrated some tricks of his trade to excited young daredevils.
To keep energy levels up on a long night of action, MAYDS staff put on an impressive spread of hot dogs, snacks and sweets, as well as some giveaways, prizes and competitions.
Despite Sports Not On The Green being a free event, the team managed to raise £400 – money which will be put straight back into community projects and events.
MAYDS centre manager, Fiona Kalache, said: ‘It was a fantastic night and great to see everyone out enjoying themselves and participating in local sports. Thanks again to the Big Lottery Celebrate Fund for supporting the event.’
Sports Not On The Green also brought a number of local organisations together with groups getting together as families, children and organisers all savoured the bright summer evening to try their hand at some new activities.
