Dochas carers to benefit from free spring break

-

A GROUP of carers from the Dochas Centre in Lochgilphead will enjoy a well-deserved break at Saddell House in Kintyre.

The centre’s carers will head to the historic Scottish building in March thanks to the Landmark Trust’s 50-for-free scheme, which offers 50 short breaks free of charge to the beneficiaries of charities.

Overlooking Saddell Bay with views of Arran and Kilbrennan Sound, the house has a special history.

The area was previously chosen by the Bishop of Argyll, who built a castle near the shore.

In the 18th century the Campbell family built the eight-bedroom Saddell House as a more modern edition to the castle.

Caroline Stanford, head of engagement at the Landmark Trust, said: ‘We’re so pleased that Landmark can offer a 50-for-free stay in Saddell House to Dochas Carers Centre.

‘Thanks to the generous private donor who funds the scheme, 50 for Free allows those who need it most to take a short break in our amazing historic buildings. We really hope that the experience helps them with the challenges they face in their lives, and wish them all a wonderful stay.’

Maggie McLaren, Dochas Centre manager, said: ‘This is the third year we have been awarded a holiday from Landmark. Our carers have had such an amazing time on these breaks. It means so much.

‘It is so important for carers to look after themselves and get a wee break from their caring responsibilities.’
