Argyllshire Advertiser - - YOUR VIEWS -

A selection of the comments were: Donald Bowness: ‘Shocking the state of Last week’s front page story about a cash bid by Argyll and Bute Council to improve the appearance of Lochgilphead’s buildings resulted in a number of comments on the Argyllshire Advertiser Facebook page.

The council has applied for £969,000 for a Lochgilphead Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme, administered by Historic Environment Scotland.

If successful, there are hopes that it would complement work already planned to upgrade the front green. the village, and especially the main street. Another thing that needs to be addressed is the amount of empty shops. Lower rent for these and encourage new businesses. The rental cripples new businesses.’ Sophia Milton: ‘About time!’

Angela MacVicar: ‘Beautiful wee village that is really tired and so needing a face lift but I totally agree that the rents need lowered so the Main Street thrives. There are so many gift shops, each offering something different but I don’t know how they survive.’ Sean MacLeod: ‘Fingers crossed for the bid. Good luck Lochgilphead.’
