Inveraray Accordion and Fiddle Club

-

It was almost a full house in December when Inveraray and District Accordion and Fiddle Club met in the Inveraray Inn.

Unfortunately chairman Niall Iain MacLean was unwell, so committee member Roddy MacDiarmid kindly stepped in as compere.

Supporting players were Fyne Folk with Jake MacKay on ‘moothie’, Sally Hall and Alex John MacLeod on fiddles and Agnes Liddell on keyboard.

They were joined by Ishbel Fraser on ‘moothie’ for a third set. Also playing were Janet Graham on accordion, Alex MacKinnon on button box, the Dalriada Ceilidh Band, Jake and Agnes on ‘moothie’ and keyboard and Jimmy MacDonald on keyboard.

They all played enjoyable, varied selections.

The guest artists were to have been the Donald MacLeod Trio but Donald injured his back the day before so was unable to lift the accordion, never mind play. Ian Anderson, who was to play keyboard, stepped into the front row on accordion and, accompanied by Gus Millar on drums, gave a superb programme, including great pipe marches, Gaelic waltzes, jigs, reels and Irish medleys which had the audience shouting for an encore.

Roddy thanked all the artists, in particular Ian and Gus, for a great night and wished everyone the compliments of the season.

To see in the new year, the club welcomes Craig McFadyen, son of wellknown bandleader Hector, and his trio, so a great night is in store.
