Booming brilliant
Kames coastguard rescue team had a busy day on Thursday December 13.
Vigilant beach cleaners found a suspected submarine phosphorus flare on Ascog Bay and dialled 999 and reported it to the coastguard.
The team was tasked to investigate and after a positive identification, set up a cordon around it.
A Kames coastguard spokesperson said: ‘We returned at first light this morning with the Royal Navy Ordnance unit which disposed of it safely via a controlled explosion. Some of you may of heard it, it was a loud boom.’
If you find anything you think may be ordnance or flares, call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
