Phoenix Cinema to rise again with funding

Oban Phoenix Cinema has received a cash injection of £28,000 for improvements.

The community-owned cinema received £22,000 from the Crerar Trust and £6,000 from Oban Common Good Fund, with the money going to repairing the roof and to develop the inside of the cinema, including a new concession stand.

Oban Phoenix Cinema chairman Gary Brown said: ‘Those who have been to the cinema recently should have noticed an improvement in the cinema experience.

‘Plans to improve the cinema don’t stop at the roof, however.

‘March should see the opening of a new concession stand in the middle area and a consultation is currently under way in how we can improve disabled access.’
