There was an extra special new year delivery for the Robertson family of Inveraray.

The first arrival of 2019 at Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital was baby Nia Annie-Rose, born at 1.10am on New Year's Day weighing 6lb 15oz.

Proud and delighted parents Kirstin and Derek thanked everyone at the hospital and Mid Argyll midwives for all the help and support they had received.

There must have been few babies born sooner after the bells in Scotland than a wee Inveraray bundle of joy born early on New Year’s Day.

Big brothers Evan and Calum have a new wee sister, and they clearly dote on her. Nia AnnieRose Robertson was the first arrival of 2019 at Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital, born at 1.10am on New Year’s Day.

Born three weeks early after what mum Kirstin describes as a ‘tricky’ pregnancy, Nia weighed in at 6lb 15oz at birth but both mum and baby are doing well.

Kirstin and her firefighter husband Derek, from Inveraray, are delighted with their new arrival. Nia’s big brothers Evan, eight, and Calum, four, are excited at the new addition to the family.

Evan said, succinctly: ‘She’s really nice and cute.’

Kirstin explained the origins of her new daughter’s name. ‘Nia has Welsh and Irish origins and means brightness. It comes from a Welsh version of the fairly tale Tir n an Og land of youth. Nia also has the name Annie after her late great-grandmother Annie MacIver.’

A planning manager for the NHS, Kirstin said: ‘It is a perfect way to start the new year. Derek and I are very grateful to the Mid Argyll midwives, especially Karen McAlpine, as well as Dr Murphy and everyone at the RAH. They’ve all been so good to us.’
