Cowal Highland Gathering shortlisted for two awards

-

The Argyll event billed as ‘the world’s most spectacular Highland gathering’ has been shortlisted in two of the UK’s most prestigious tourism awards.

Cowal Highland Gathering is the only Scottish finalist in the National Outdoor Events Association Awards (NOEA) Large Festival of the Year category. Now in its 16th year, the awards bring together the very best of the UK’s events and festivals, all vying for industry recognition by winning.

This news came hot on the heels of the announcement that the gathering is one of only three finalists in the Best Cultural Event or Festival in the Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards (HITA). These awards – now in their 15th year – celebrate the best in the hospitality, cultural events, festivals and tourism industry in the Highlands and Islands.

This news is a feather in the cap for the gathering which celebrated its 125th anniversary in August. For generations this major event has entertained people from across the world, and in recent years transformed itself to become one of Scotland’s great family-friendly days out.

Cowal Highland Gathering chairman Ronnie Cairns said he was delighted the gathering had received this recognition from two such well-respected industry organisations.

‘These are two prominent organisations, so we’re thrilled to have been shortlisted by both,’ he said.

‘The gathering has been on a journey of transformation over the last few years, and while our historic events – the World Highland Dancing Championships, the Cowal Pipe Band Championship, the incredible heavy athletics and wrestling – will always be at the heart of our event, we’re proud to bring a range of new entertainment and attractions to broaden its appeal and make sure everyone is entertained.

‘Being shortlisted in both the HITA and NOEA awards is a positive indication we are moving in the right direction and we’re delighted the hard work and dedication of our events team is being recognised.’

The winners of the Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards will be held in the Drumossie Hotel, Inverness on Friday November 1 and the National Outdoor Events Association Awards will be held in the Pump Rooms, Bath on Wednesday November 27.
