Anything is possible for these triathlon ladies

Overall winner Graeme Neagle grabbed the Mid Argyll Triathlon headlines as he set a new fastest time for the course – but there were achievements galore right through the list of entrants.

Taking part in the MacQueen Brothers-sponsored triathlon, held on Sunday September 29, was Tayvallich woman Louise Logue, taking on her first triathlon at the age of 67 along with her daughter Sally, 37.

Also entered was 70-year-old Fiona MacCallum, a fellow North Knapdale jogscotland member with Louise.

Louise described her first experience of a triathlon: ‘I felt privileged to be able to compete at this later stage in life and to have Sally compete with me was just the icing on the cake. I was determined to keep a steady pace and get to the end and enjoy the challenge.’

‘I’m a slow swimmer so I was in the first solo heat,’ she explained. ‘Sally was in a much later heat so she was able to cheer me on at the first transition.

‘I was doing my second transition while she was swimming so I was finished and able to cheer her on at her second transition and at the finish.’

Run together

Louise added: ‘Fiona and I run together in jogscotland north Knapdale, which I lead. She is a much stronger swimmer than I am, so she was well ahead. I had a much faster bike, so caught her again at the end of the cycle.’

Fiona, in fact, was the winner of the super vintage trophy for women.

Louise concluded: ‘Our husbands and partners came to support us, and another of my daughters, Julia, came with her family. She wouldn’t have believed it if she hadn’t seen me with her own eyes.

‘Anything is possible if you put your mind to it.’
