Bowlers return under new set of guidelines
Bowlers across the region have been let loose – with social distancing in place – after the sport was allowed to re-start last weekend.
Revised Scottish Government guidance and a limited relaxation of coronavirus restrictions meant bowls were polished ready for a limited re-opening from May 29.
Tarbert Bowling Club opened on Saturday May 30 on a magnificent looking green.
The opening was marked with a president versus vice president match.
In the current situation, two time slots are available to club members only - midday and 2.30pm for singles or pairs. Pairings must be with a member of the same household.
New guidelines can be viewed on the club noticeboard and the Tarbert Bowling Club Facebook page and members are asked to familiarise themselves with the new requirements before playing.
Lochgilphead Bowling Club wasted no time with the official opening of the green for 2020 held at 11am on Friday May 29.
In a break with tradition, the opening of the green was performed by club vice president Dorothy Clark followed by a six-end challenge match against president Roddy MacDonald.
For now, the Lochgilphead green is available to members for practice matches only under new rules, with no spectating around the green. No visitors or guests are allowed and rules are in place to maintain social distancing while on the green.
Strict hygiene measures are in place and the clubhouse will remain closed except for emergency access.
In line with a requirement to track who is playing, the club asks members to keep a note of the dates played, times and who you play with.
