Work starts on £30,000 A83 road safety barrier project

-

The first phase of a project to install safety barriers along the A83 at Butterbridge, north of the Rest and be Thankful, began this week.

The £30,000 project will see 300m of new safety barriers installed and connected to the existing barriers in line with the bridge. The project has been designed to provide a safer journey for road users and is part of continuing investment in road safety on the A83 by Transport Scotland. The project began on Monday, July 27, and will take place between 7am and 7pm each day, with work expected to take up to three weeks. No work will take place at weekends.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, temporary traffic lights and a 30mph speed limit will be in place during working hours. Strict physical distancing protocols will be in place to ensure all site personnel remain safe. The second phase of the project will take place next year, and will involve teams carrying out drainage improvements and installing more road safety barriers.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West representative, said: ‘We’ve changed our ways of working to ensure staff and the community are kept safe during the Covid-19 pandemic and all personnel will be subject to strict physical distancing protocols in line with Scottish Government guidance. The temporary traffic lights are essential for the protection of our workforce and motorists. At certain points it will be necessary to keep traffic management in place outwith working hours for safety, however, our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible.’
