Deans wins Dunaverty cup

Frost slightly delayed the start of Dunaverty Golf Club’s Mersey Police Cup competition but the sun soon shone, resulting in a bright breezy day last Saturday.

John Docherty, playing in the first group, had a fine round of 72 to give him a leading nett score of 64 but in the following group he was displaced by Ryan Deans who produced the best scratch round of the day with a 69. Playing off a nine handicap, this gave Ryan the winning nett score of 59.

Sandy Watson proved once again that age is no barrier to good golf and took the runner-up spot with a nett 62.

Worthy of a mention was 13-year-old Jake MacMillan who finished in seventh place with a nett 66.

He will no doubt be one to watch in the future.

Result: 1 Ryan Deans 68-9=59; 2 Sandy Watson 73-11=62; 3 John Docherty 72-8=64; 4 Robert Coffield 74-9=65 (bih); 5 Alan Goddard 81-16=65; 6 Lee Mathieson 72-6=66 (bih).
