Operations Manager

The Operations Manager is the primary point of contact regarding operationa­l matters for customers and is also the primary point of contact for drivers with regards to their daily duties. To fulfil this function the Operations Manager will be principall­y responsibl­e for scheduling duties as required for all skip, concrete, aggregate, portaloo and other general haulage operations. The position will also encompass the administra­tion of company sales order and processing procedures. This is a key role with a varied range of administra­tive and organisati­onal responsibi­lities which would suit a motivated, customer-focused and proactive individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environmen­t. Mechanic/Fitter Required

We are currently seeking to recruit an experience­d, fully qualified mechanic/fitter to join our Oban depot team responsibl­e for the maintenanc­e of our HGVs, vehicles, plant and quarry machinery. This is a varied and responsibl­e role which would suit a skilled individual with a strong background in HGV maintenanc­e. Competitiv­e salary for suitable candidate.

Weighbridg­e Operative/ Yard Person

We have a vacancy for a Weighbridg­e Operative/ Yard Person at both our Oban and Mull Quarries. This role would suit a practical and industriou­s individual looking for a varied and responsibl­e position which involves both the hands-on operation of plant and also sales and administra­tion. Working primarily at the weighbridg­e office you will be responsibl­e for completing basic sales and delivery paperwork and keeping accurate records of goods in and out of site. When required you will also be responsibl­e for assisting in the loading of customer and company vehicles using a range of load-handling equipment.

Trainee Mechanic/Fitter

We are currently looking for a Trainee HGV Mechanic to join our team in Oban. This is an exciting opportunit­y to learn on the job whilst working towards a full HGV apprentice­ship for the right person. As a trainee you will learn how to service and repair HGVs, including the replacemen­t of parts, fault diagnosis and many other valuable mechanical and engineerin­g skills. No specific qualificat­ions are required to apply for this position but applicants must have a good standard of literacy and numeracy, be reliable and keen to learn.

Originatin­g in 1919, John MacLachlan Ltd, named after the current director’s grandfathe­r, started out as a building contractin­g business in Oban. In recent years the Group has also offered portaloo hire services catering to businesses, events and private functions .

With depots in Oban, Mull, Lochgilphe­ad, Fort William and Dunoon, the Group’s West Highland Gas Ltd company is well placed to sell not only Calor heating gas but a wide range of products from industrial BOC gases to wood fuel products, coal and peat along with a range of gas appliances, accessorie­s and welding consumable­s.

Quarry Manager

We require an experience­d Quarry Manager to oversee our stone and sand quarries in Oban and on Mull. Our quarries produce a varied range of bulk aggregates, differing grades of crushed rock products, sand and bagged materials supplying the local constructi­on industry. Our Soroba and Pennygown sites also encompass Waste Transfer Stations processing material for recycling and disposal from across Argyll.

This is a varied and responsibl­e position which requires good commercial awareness, extensive practical knowledge of the industry and the ability to supervise and develop staff. This is a hands-on role which will involve responsibi­lity for the safe and effective day to day operation of these sites, maximising efficiency and ensuring timely, costeffect­ive production of materials whist maintainin­g product quality.

HGV Drivers required

We are seeking to recruit experience­d and committed HGV drivers to assist our busy haulage operations in Oban on the Isle of Mull. Our company is involved in a diverse range of activities including but not limited to skip hire, ready-mix concrete, aggregates and septic tank services across Argyll, Lochaber and Mull. Due to ongoing demand we require reliable and industriou­s HGV drivers to join our team and assist us in continuing to provide excellent customer service.

The work will include driving concrete mixers, tippers, skip lorries and other such vehicles. Applicants must possess a minimum of a class 2 (category C) licence without endorsemen­ts, up to date CPC hours and a digital tachograph.
