Count with a difference

-

For those of us who have witnessed a few elections close up, this was a strange one - for very good reason, of course.

There is usually a buzz in the air as the polls close and counting starts. As impartial observers it is always intriguing to watch the demeanour of candidates and followers changing as the count, and night, progresses. There is usually a palpable tension in the air.

But there was none of that at this count. Carried out in a different way during daytime, physically spread out, limited attendees, socially distanced and cordoned off behind plastic.

Everyone behind the planning of the election in Argyll and Bute deserves a huge pat on the back.

It is always a massive undertaking, but the pandemic precautions this year made it doubly so.

Well done to all involved in its organisation, and congratulations to Jenni Minto, an adopted Ileach, on her victory.
