Nursery youngsters vote for nature

with animals topping the poll

-

Never mind the other election which apparently was going on that day, the real action was happening at Riverside Rascals Nursery in Lochgilphead where the children were having their own vote.

Emma Penman, Riverside Rascals owner/manager, explained: ‘We held a special election at the nursery to coincide with the national elections and the ELC to Primary 1 transition.’

As part of their transition to school, the children are learning about the natural world and they were asked to vote on whether they would like to focus on the subject of animals, plants or insects.

‘Each child was given a ballot paper and asked to make their choice,’ said Emma.

‘We set the room up like a polling station and they had to cross the box they’d like.

‘In the end they chose to learn about animals.

‘The children were very excited as some of them had been to vote with their parents before coming to nursery.’

Five-year-old Nora, when asked what she liked about it, said: ‘We voted for the government.’
