The trouble with tall towers and tourism
The subject for the latest cartoon by Tarbert artist Ann Thomas is the growing number of metal towers in Tarbert and Kintyre.
Topical as ever, Ann picks up on the huge new pylons which will shortly march across the landscape alongside growing numbers of even taller wind turbine towers.
Community councils across Kintyre, along with South Knapdale and Tarbert and Skipness, have asked the Scottish Government for a pause in wind farm construction to assess the wider impact of these developments on the peninsula.
At the same time, a new tourist attraction ‘Route 66’ has been launched to attract visitors to various places in lovely Kintyre.
Ann muses that a proliferation of big industrial towers and drawing tourists to the area might be tricky to achieve together.
