Weather presents challenge at Glenralloch

-

Difficult conditions greeted Tarbert Golf Club members who gathered for the first round of the President’s Cup, which was combined with the May medal.

The morning groups at Glenralloch had to contend with a strong easterly breeze, while the later starters had the breeze combined with heavy rain, making scoring difficult.

Peter McLean junior continued his recent good form to take the May medal with 63 nett and the first round lead in the President’s with a 72.

Peter’s outward nine included four birdies, with his only blip being a seven at the ninth when he drove out of bounds.

Slipping into second place in the President’s was Bruce MacNab with 76, followed by Iain Johnstone junior on 77.

It was good to see new member Andrew Henderson shooting 64 nett to take second place in the medal, with Iain Johnstone junior third on 66.

The second round of the President’s Cup takes place on May 22 along with the first round of the John Reid Quaich.

On Thursday May 6, the ladies played a nine-hole Stableford with Angela Vernal taking first place on 17 points, followed by Georgie Dickson and Jo Kerr on 14.

Youngster Connor McCrae headed to Broomieknowe Golf Club for his latest Stephen Gallacher Foundation event, where he came third in the under-10 section with a fine 39, just four shots behind the winner. This week Connor heads to Linlithgow for his next event.
