A substantial donation is bringing the redevelopment of Mid Argyll Community Pool one step closer to completion.

Twenty-five years after playing a crucial part in fundraising for the original pool, Mid Argyll Rotary has donated £1,000.

It is part of a business sponsorship scheme which will see donor companies’ contributions recognised with logos displayed in the new Activity Hub.

The rotary’s insignia will adorn two of the cubicles in the new changing area.

Mid Argyll Rotary president David Renwick said: ‘Mid Argyll Rotary is delighted to continue the long association with MACPool by supporting its redevelopment and wishes all involved every success for the new activity hub.’

When completed the MACPool Activity Hub will offer soft play, an all-access café and multi-use rooms for hire in addition to improved changing facilities for the pool.

The work, which started in March and is due for completion in October, is going to plan despite the challenges faced by many in the building industry.

Speaking at the cheque presentation on June 21, site manager Gordon Rahm said: ‘It’s great to see the concrete going in now, in fact the slabs went in today for the cafeteria so we can really see it coming together now and can start getting the walls and roof up.

‘We’re on schedule and really bucking the trend in construction just now, where some companies are facing delays due to problems getting materials. We’re fortunate to have very good relationships with our suppliers.’

Accepting the rotary’s cheque on behalf of Mid Argyll Community Enterprises Ltd, the organisation’s chair Kim Ritchie said: ‘We are so grateful to the Mid Argyll Rotary and to all of our local business sponsors for their generosity.

‘Every contribution takes us a step nearer to our community fundraising target of £100,000 for the fit-out of our exciting new activity hub.’

The MACPool redevelopment team is still actively seeking business sponsors to support the fit-out phase of the project and interested parties can email Kim on theredevelopment@macpool.org.uk mailbox.

The MACPool redevelopment project is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, Scottish Government Regeneration Capital Grant Fund, Argyll and Bute Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Sport Scotland, The Robertson Trust, Foundation Scotland, Ventient A'Chruach Community Fund, EB Scotland, Viridor Credits, CRF Hydro, Co-op Local Community Fund and local fundraising.
