Top Scottish fiddle player and composer Patsy Reid will be running a mentoring course for would-be teachers and tutors on the island and across Argyll and Bute as part of the first Mull Fiddle Week.

Trainees will begin their training in the months leading up to the event that starts on August 9 and will take part in a series of teaching workshops and online tutorials. This will allow them to become familiar with the repertoire and how to teach it.

Patsy's depth of knowledge of traditional fiddle music makes her teaching style both innovative and creative, says one of the week's organisers Laura Mandleberg.

All tutors as well as trainees will benefit from being on Mull working closely with Patsy, sharing new skills and ideas which will ultimately benefit the young participants joining in workshops and performances during the actual week.

Patsy, who has 20 years of teaching experience, is a huge fan of Mull Music Maker's work describing the charity's workers as 'such a passionate and dedicated team making a real difference to the musical landscape on Mull.'

Supporting the Fiddle Week concept, she said the initiative would allow the group to further develop its commitment to the promotion and preservation of the traditional music of Mull and the wider Highlands, while offering all young people the opportunity to develop essential musical and social skills.

Patsy said being able to offer some places during the special week to fiddle players who are interested in developing their knowledge and understanding of violin pedagogy and the art of teaching in general was 'fantastic'.
