Kathleen and Steven claim champion titles

Last weekend saw the ladies and gents compete in the last rounds of their championsh­ips at Lochgilphe­ad Golf Club.

On Saturday June 19 all of the ladies played an excellent round and the day finished with Kathleen Young leading by one stroke on 81, with Margaret MacKinnon hard on her heels with 82 strokes.

Jane Hepburn was leading in the Stableford with 39 points; Eilidh Flanagan and Fiona McLeod chasing in joint second with 38 points.

Among the midges and rain on Sunday Kathleen improved her lead, finishing on 164 strokes to take the title of ladies’ champion 2021, beating Margaret by two strokes. Jane lost her lead in the Stableford, which was won by Fiona.

A field of 17 gents took to the course for the third round of their championsh­ip on Saturday with Steven Gilmour holding the lead on 134 strokes; Ross Sinclair one behind and Ryan McGlynn in third place on 139 strokes.

The third round saw a change in placings. Steven retained first place on 200 strokes as Ryan took second place with 207 strokes. Competitio­n was fierce on Sunday, with fellow competitor­s watching Steven sink his last putt in the final game to claim the gents championsh­ip on 266 strokes. Ryan was second with 275 strokes.

Winner of the nett competitio­n with steady golf was senior member Alec MacAulay, who also lifted the senior champion trophy.

The course was in great condition and Steven thanked everyone who worked hard preparing the course for the championsh­ip.
