Malcolm tops the Archie MacNab leaderboard
Good scoring was anticipated as 19 members gathered at Glenralloch in Tarbert for the first round of the Archie MacNab Memorial Cup.
The Tarbert course was in superb condition, with weather to match on Saturday July 10.
Of the early starters, James Smyth set the early pace with 40 points, followed by brothers Bruce and Peter McLean on 39 points with John and Bruce MacNab a point back on 38.
New clubs in the bag and fresh from lessons by PGA professional Ken Campbell, the day, however, belonged to Malcolm McAlpine, who shot to the top of the leader board.
Birdies
His round of 69 included six birdies, with a red hot putter contributing to a fantastic 47 points to give him the first round lead by seven points. The magic twos came from Graham Prentice and Iain Macalister.
The Archie MacNab Memorial Cup second round is on Saturday July 17.
On the following Saturday, July 24, Tarbert Golf Club will host a par three open for ladies and gents.
The winner of the 18-hole event will head to Swanston New Golf Club on August
21 to play for an all-expenses-paid trip to Sawgrass in Florida, home of the US PGA Players’ Championship. To enter, visit the Tarbert Golf Club website.
