Thought for the Week

Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of us should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than ourself.

Each of us should be concerned not only about our own interests, but about the interests of others as well, based on Philippians 2:3-4.

Over the past 16 months, communities have done a brilliant job looking out for one another in all sorts of ways and generally sticking to whatever regulations have been in place.

Many people regard the move to Level 0 as positive news, but it raises the anxiety level for others as people mix more freely. Whilst looking forward to enjoying our new-found freedom, we are aware we still need to take care.

An old story, entitled ‘Who’s job is it?’, came to mind. It’s about four people: Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.

There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but

Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realised that Everybody wouldn’t do it.

It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have.

It will be interesting to see how well we all do with the easing of restrictions. But of this we can be sure: if anybody thinks it’s okay to do what they like, as long as somebody sticks to the rules, you can be sure that nobody will be kept safe!

It is only if everybody plays their part that we can keep moving forward. Have a safe summer.
