Music club returns after two years

-

The Inveraray and District Accordion and Fiddle Club finally got its regular club nights underway in the Inveraray Inn on Wednesday October 12 after an absence of more than two years due to the Covid pandemic.

Chairman Roddy MacDiarmid welcomed everyone and asked Angus J MacColl, accompanied by Agnes Liddell on keyboard, to play a few tunes on the Highland bagpipes to get the evening underway.

This was followed by stalwarts Fyne Folk with Jake MacKay on ‘moothie’, Sally Hall and Alex John MacLeod on fiddle, Agnes Liddell on keyboard and they were joined by Angus J on small pipes and Grant MacDougall on drums.

Next on stage was Johnny Fisher on button box accompanied by Agnes on keyboard.

A newcomer to the club, Donnie McCorquodale from Oban, accompanied by Agnes and Angus J was next up – all the musicians delighted the audience with their varied selections.

The guest artists, led by Charlie Kirkpatrick on button box, Neil MacMillan on keyboard and Ian Graham on drums, needed no introduction to the club having played many times over the years and, with plenty of cheery banter from Charlie, a good night was in store.

They played a great selection of sets from Gaelic waltzes, pipe marches, schottisches, jigs, polkas to rousing reels – and some sing-a-long tunes, with the audience in fine voice.

After tea and the raffle, it was more of the same in the second half with the supporting players having another turn before Charlie and co came back to round off the evening.

The chairman thanked all the players for ensuring the night went with a swing and next week the club looks forward to welcoming back accordionist Iain Anderson from Langholm and his Trio.
