Call to bring old skills back into use to ReMake Argyll

-

The GRAB Trust is calling on people to get creative when it comes to reducing waste.

The trust, which is based in Argyll and Bute and has been focusing on waste reduction, litter and marine pollution in Argyll for over 20 years, is keen to bring the community together to make that happen – but it needs your help.

A spokesperson for the trust said: ‘We believe that older people have lots to offer, from baking and cooking skills to mending clothes.

‘From growing vegetables to fixing bikes and DIY. From upcycling furniture, to upcycling fashion.

‘In turn, young people can show their elders a thing or two when it comes to social media, going vegan or getting pals together for a ‘sharedrobe’.

‘By bringing generations together in shared purpose, our initiative ReMake Argyll aims to reduce loneliness, counter rural isolation, celebrate communities and improve the environment.

‘We want to bridge the age gap in communities across Argyll and Bute to cut down on needless waste of resources. In this project we will bring together young people with the older generation to share knowledge, skills and experience to cut down waste of the planets resources, delivering free workshops and events across the county.

‘We hope to be able to share these workshops on a variety of platforms such a social media, text, audio and video, in order to make them accessible for all communities in Argyll and Bute.’

Skills sharing started in Ardfern, Craignish by Katie Ritchie and Tiziana Teodoldi, who ran four workshops at the beginning of 2022 under the theme of skills for zero waste.

Champions for zero waste, Katie and Tiziana are now passing the baton to GRAB to nurture and grow their great work; taking ReMake Argyll to all corners of Argyll and Bute.
