Argyll choir sings the songs of Christmas cheer
Dunoon-based Voices of Argyll will give its first Carols by Candlelight performance this Christmas in the High Kirk Dunoon.
The women's choir is celebrating a successful first year of concerts, including performances at Inveraray Castle, the Dunoon Jazz and Blues Festival and supporting the renowned traditional singer Eddi Reader at her live tour in Tarbert on Friday November 25.
The choir will also be getting out into the community and performing in Ashgrove Care Home, Kirn, and will perform in two Christmas concerts.
The first is on Friday December 16 in St John’s Church in Gourock as special guests at Reely Jiggered’s Celtic Christmas Concert which will be streamed to an international audience.
They will also be performing their first in-person Christmas concert on Thursday December 22 at 7.30pm at The High Kirk in Dunoon accompanied by some award-winning musicians. The programme has something for the whole family and is accompanied by award-winning musicians Hebba Benyaghla (piano), Chun Yi (violin), and Fiona McNeill (drums and percussion).
The choir will be joined by Angel Voices Children’s Choir and conducted by Alison McNeill who conducts the National Junior Choir of Northern Ireland, the National Boys Choir and is assistant director of RSNO Youth Chorus.
She is also lead singer and fiddler with folk rock band Reely Jiggered and has sung as soprano soloist with the RSNO Orchestra.
The choir began in October 2021 and has already made a huge impact upon its singers’ wellbeing coming out of Covid. Voices of Argyll’s aim is to provide high quality singing opportunities for singers with concerts for rural audiences using the scenic beauty of Argyll as its concert hall.
