Green tourism accolade for Glenfinnan micro-glampsite
Back Track Bothies at Glenfinnan says it is delighted to have received a Green Tourism Award at bronze level in recognition of its sustainable business practices.
The Green Tourism scheme is the world’s leading sustainability standard with a mission to embed responsible, sustainable and environmentally-friendly practices to help businesses reduce their environmental impact.
The awards - at bronze, silver and gold level - are given to businesses which join the scheme and complete a rigorous pre-assessment checklist, backed by evidence of their green practices, which is then looked at by Green Tourism’s technical team for full assessment and verification.
The Green Check Assessment covers more than 70 indicators across 15 sustainability goals, including reducing energy use, saving water, eco-friendly waste disposal, promoting biodiversity and ethical buying.
Successful businesses receive an award plaque and certificate to display in their business, plus digital logos of the award to use on their website, in marketing and on social media channels.
The Green Tourism Scheme was established in 1997, and in Scotland it was developed through a partnership between VisitScotland and Green Business UK Ltd.
Ally Entwistle of Back Track Bothies, which only launched at Easter this year, told us: ‘We are really delighted to have been awarded a Bronze Green Tourism Award after our first assessment. The award recognises our commitment to providing our guests with a greener, cleaner environment which is also sustainable.
‘We are now working towards gaining a silver award, and we hope being in the scheme will be attractive to our guests.
‘Research by Booking.com showed that 78 per cent of travellers are intending to stay in a more sustainable property in the coming year, but 29 per cent don’t know how to find sustainable travel options.
‘We hope our award might help them.’
