New year, new music from MAAA

-

Mid Argyll Arts Association (MAAA) put a first foot forward on their New Year resolution challenge to “try something new” to offer a top-class concert on Sunday, January 11 - and are now looking forward to welcoming another fine act to Ardrishaig.

A MAAA spokesperson said: “Special thanks to Argyll and Bute Council for allowing us to hold our first concert of 2023 in Kilmory Castle.

“The Scottish Reed Trio were the group performing and they are an ideal group for those 'new' to chamber music concerts.

“The trio play all reed instruments, hence the name, with a clarinet using a single reed while the other instruments, oboe and bassoon, use double reeds.

“The programme was exciting, with a diverse selection of music catering for all tastes.

“This was obvious to the trio as they commented on just how many people were smiling and enjoying the music. They also said that when they see the audience smiling it makes them play even better – so keep smiling!

“Our next concert, on Saturday February 11, is Robert Plane and the Gould Piano Trio. This is a group which is always in great demand and it is a real coup for Mid Argyll Arts Association that it is coming to perform for us here in Ardrishaig, with an exciting and varied programme of chamber music ranging from Tibor Serly’s use of Hungarian folk songs to the impressionist style of Amy Beach.

“With Brahms’s most intense Trio and a prize-winning Trio by Walter Rabl completing the programme, this surely is a concert not to be missed.”

The concert takes place on Saturday February 11 at 7.30pm in Ardrishaig Public Hall, with tickets available at the door.
