Thought for the Week

-

Recently I watched a programme on television that was highlighting the cost of living crisis across the UK and especially in Scotland where many families are struggling.

These families in need rely on the support given from the government, charities, organisations, churches, and the generosity of people, who help to feed them.

Locally, we are extremely blessed to have an organisation called MOMA (Moving On – Mid Argyll) that does incredible work in providing food parcels to those in need in our community.

While we are grateful and rely on these different support structures that are available for those in need, I can’t help but cast my thoughts to God who is the provider of all.

Psalm 50 v 10 – 12 reminds and teaches us that when it comes to our daily provisions, we can and should place our trust and confidence in God.

This is what the verses say: 10. For every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. 11. I know every bird in the mountains, and the insects in the fields are mine. 12. If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.

When we pray to God, we take confidence that not only is he sovereign over it all, but he does not need anything, because he also owns it all.

The picture we get of God is that he is the self-existent sovereign Lord of all, who desires that we look to him and call upon him in our time of need, for he will be the source of provision.

Let’s not forget from whom and from where we ultimately get our provisions from.
