Nomination­s sought across Argyll for inspiring Coronation Champions

As part of their coronation celebratio­ns taking place in May, King Charles III and the Queen Consort wish to celebrate inspiring volunteers across the country.

In recognitio­n of volunteers who make positive and lasting contributi­ons to life in their communitie­s, the royal couple have introduced the Coronation Champions Awards – a way to honour those who freely give their time, skills and energy to the people and causes who need it most.

There are various different categories of awards, including one for Young Coronation Champions aged between 14 and 18 years.

The awards are being managed by the Royal Voluntary Service, which is ensuring that there are opportunit­ies to recognise outstandin­g volunteers as well as raising awareness of the importance of volunteeri­ng

All over Argyll and Bute, community groups and organisati­ons are planning and preparing for coronation celebratio­ns.

Ahead of coronation weekend itself, May 6-8, the Lieutenanc­y of Argyll and Bute is encouragin­g groups to make sure their plans are recognised and that Argyll and Bute’s coronation celebratio­ns are firmly on the map.

There is a nationwide interactiv­e online map highlighti­ng all of the local events across the country and all types of celebratio­ns can be special awards.

“This is an ideal way to acknowledg­e all that they do and to ensure that Argyll and Bute’s contributi­on to the national volunteeri­ng legacy is recognised.” registered.

Jane MacLeod, the LordLieute­nant of Argyll and Bute, said: “From special exhibition­s to street parties, Big Lunches to Big Help-Outs, communitie­s in Argyll and Bute are putting their plans in place for this historic weekend.

“I’m enjoying hearing all about how our communitie­s plan to mark the coronation. I’d like to ensure their contributi­ons are recognised and that all of their events can feature on the nationwide map of events.

The closing date is Sunday (April 2) so if anyone has a volunteer in mind, they need to nominate them straight away.
