Fyne show from carpet kings Inveraray
Inveraray Bowling Club held its last club night of 2022-23 last Monday evening, including the club’s Skips Cup and prizegiving.
Inveraray also won the Fyneside League by a good margin, only dropping six points out of 60 all year and finishing the year unbeaten, deposing 2020 champions Furnace.
Club chairman Duncan Robertson thanked the 19 members for their continued support across the year and, in particular, secretary Scott MacIntyre and treasurer George Morrison.
The Lochfyneside Carpet Bowls League final table: 1 Inveraray 54pts; 2 Dalmally 32pts; 3 Furnace 29pts; 4 Cairndow 26pts; 5 Portsonochan 19pts.
The trophy, dating from 1931, will be on display in MacIntyres of Inveraray.
Dalmally hosted the inter-club Skips Cup and Archie MacColl-Smith and team represented Inveraray, however, Duncan Crawford and his team from Furnace won.
The new season will commence on the first week in October on Monday nights in the Church Hall in Inveraray.
Skye Camanachd picked up their first points of the season after beating Glasgow Mid Argyll (GMA) 1-0 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree.
This was Skye’s first home match of the year and, in the first half, Jordan Murchison was a constant threat for the islanders with GMA’s Calum McLay going close when he fired narrowly by the far post from the left. Skye, who had wind advantage in the second half, came close to taking the lead when GMA failed to clear Kenny Cushnie’s corner from the right and Jordan Murchison’s strike from a central position came off keeper Jonathon Oates’ post.
