Ardrishaig CC calls for gala day help
Ardrishaig Community Council is calling on Ardrishaig folk and those interested from further afield to help organise its village gala day this summer.
The community council has received the go-ahead from Argyll and Bute Council to hold the village-wide event on Saturday August 19, with a host of family-friendly activities pencilled in as well as fun for the grown-ups.
Christine MacIntyre, convener of Ardrishaig Community Council, told the Advertiser: “This will be a fullday event with lots of activities on for the children, including, we hope, a duck race.
“Every large village or town in Argyll and Bute has its own annual event and it will be brilliant to put on one such activity again, which Ardrishaig people can enjoy and feel ownership of.
“We hope to have a procession from the Steamer Terminal to the South Car Park, and we have arranged too for a fleet of classic cars to appear from Oban on the day.
“Above all, this is an event to say thank you to the people of Ardrishaig after the pandemic, with a community-minded event featuring lots of little activities which will include something fun for everyone.”
That will be music to the community’s ears - but then so will a selection of the region’s up-and-coming artists, should their plans for a series of musical offerings come to fruition.
Christine added: “We plan to feature live music later in the day with young bands, and the Ceilidh Trailers.
“As a community council with new members we are starting from scratch and for new personnel it can be a steep learning curve.
