Dochas celebrates 25 years of support

-

The Dochas Carers Centre has been supporting unpaid carers throughout Mid Argyll, Kintyre and the islands for a quarter of a century.

The independent charity has staff working in Islay, Jura, Campbeltown and Lochgilphead and is urging any unpaid carers to get in touch to find out about the support on offer.

“When you register as a carer, you will be offered a carers’ support assessment and plan,” said a Dochas Carers Centre spokesperson. “The staff will speak with you about your situation and what supports, information or advice would help to minimise the impact of your caring role. As a carer, you are entitled to gain access to a variety of support which includes groups where you can meet with other carers for a chat or take part in activities.”

The groups include an art group, a parent support group and a Parkinson’s group and there are drop-ins, carers’ lunches and more. Phone 01546 600022 or email enquiries@dochas.scot for more information.

The Dochas Carers Centre is planning a range of activities to celebrate National Carers Week which takes place each year in June, as follows:

▍ Campbeltown: Monday June 5, drop-in from 10.30am to 12.30pm at Kintyre Community Education Centre, Stewart Road.

▍ Jura: Thursday June 8, coffee morning from 10.30am to 12pm at Jura Care Centre.

▍ Islay: Friday June 9, coffee afternoon from 1.30pm to 3pm at MYFOS (Mactaggart Youth and Families Outreach Services), Port Ellen.

“Thank you to everyone who continues to support our work,” added the spokesperson.
